Jose Martinez-Torres struck, killed on MLK Pkwy in Beaumont

BEAUMONT, TX – An elderly man died just before the Labor Day weekend when a vehicle struck him along a major roadway in northeast Beaumont, reports WFAA News 8.

The accident occurred shortly before 9:30 p.m. Friday on South ML King Jr. Parkway between I-10 and Caldwell Avenue, which is just east of Babe Zaharias Park.

It’s not yet clear if the victim was walking in a designated crosswalk or in another part of the roadway when the crash happened.

Authorities identified the victim as 75-year-old Jose Martinez-Torres.

Officials haven’t released the name of the driver, who they say did stop to render aid and to speak with police.

Drivers likely faced delays along MLK Parkway in the area of the collision while emergency crews worked at the scene.

A full investigation is underway.
