Escalade and BMW collide on Weber Rd, killing Rene Govea

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – Two people died, and several others were hurt Sunday in a two-vehicle collision caused by a drunk driver on the south side of Corpus Christi.

According to KRIS 6 News, the accident occurred around 6:30 a.m. on Weber Road between Holly and Tripoli. This is west of Malibu Park and northeast of the Cabaniss Athletic Complex.

Police say that the driver of a northbound Cadillac Escalade was intoxicated when she failed to yield right of way and turned in front of a southbound BMW, causing a collision.

The impact of the crash ejected the driver and two passengers of the Escalade, all of whom required hospitalization. The front passenger succumbed to her injuries after transport.

Medics transported a passenger from the BMW to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the BMW died at the scene.

Authorities identified the two victims in the crash as 50-year-old Melinda Garcia, from the Escalade, and 45-year-old Rene Govea from the BMW.

The driver of the Escalade faces charges of intoxication manslaughter.
