Head-on crash on FM 730 in Azle claims Robert Anness, 1 other
AZLE, TX – Two people died, and at least two others sustained injuries Tuesday in a wrong-way collision in northwest Tarrant County, reports WFAA News 8.
The five-vehicle accident occurred shortly before 12:30 pm on FM 730 North, or Boyd Road, on the north side of Azle. This is just west of Eagle Mountain Lake and about 17 miles northwest of Fort Worth.
Police say that for unknown reasons, a northbound vehicle entered the southbound side of FM 730 and collided head on with two southbound vehicles. This initial collision caused a chain-reaction of crashes involving two additional vehicles.
A passenger in the wrong-way vehicle sustained fatal injuries, as did the driver of one of the southbound vehicles. Authorities identified the victims as 73-year-old Johna Estes Wicker and 67-year-old Robert Edwin Anness.
At least two additional victims required hospitalization for serious injuries.
Officials closed FM 730 North in the area of the crash for over six hours while crews gathered evidence and worked to clear the scene.
A full investigation is underway.
