Pickup vs. SUV crash in S Lufkin fatally injures Morgan Wright

LUFKIN, TX – A 40-year-old Lufkin ISD teacher sustained fatal injuries Monday afternoon in a crash involving a runaway teen in a stolen pickup truck.

According to East Texas News, the accident occurred around 1 p.m. at the intersection of North Third Street and East Frank Avenue in downtown Lufkin.

Police say that 16-year-old Levi Simmons evaded an attempted stop near the mall. Simmons fled authorities in his stolen Chevy pickup, eventually colliding with a westbound Ford Explorer.

Medics airlifted the driver of the Explorer, identified as Morgan Wright, to a hospital in Tyler. Wright succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.

Simmons was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Upon his release, police arrested Simmons and booked him into Angelina County Juvenile Detention Center.

Specific charges have not yet been announced.
