Solo crash on I-20 near Putnam claims Candace Gant, 1 other

CALLAHAN CO., TX – A single-vehicle accident along the interstate in northeast Callahan County killed two adults and injured two children on Monday, reports Abilene Reporter News.

The crash occurred shortly after 9:30 p.m. on the westbound side of I-20 approaching mile marker 319. This is just east of Putnam and about 33 miles southeast of Abilene.

Police say that for unknown reasons, the driver of a Ford Edge lost control of the SUV, causing the vehicle to leave the interstate and overturn.

Two unrestrained adults in the front seat sustained fatal injuries when they were ejected from the vehicle. Authorities identified the victims as 27-year-old Candace Paige Gant and 46-year-old Misty Nicole Moody.

Medics transported an unrestrained 5-year-old to Hendrick Medical Center with serious injuries. A 1-year-old child in a car seat sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

There’s no word yet regarding the cause of the collision.

A full investigation is underway.
