DUI driver strikes, kills Brittany Esquivel on TX-62 near Buna

JASPER CO., TX – A Groves woman died Tuesday night in an auto-pedestrian crash caused by an alleged drunk driver in southeast Jasper County, reports Beaumont Enterprise.

The accident occurred around 8 p.m. along TX-62 near Gist Road, which is approximately 13 miles southeast of Buna and 25 miles northeast of Beaumont.

Police say that 31-year-old Britany Esquivel was walking along TX-62 when a northbound Ford pickup truck hit her. It’s unclear if the victim was walking on the shoulder or in a lane of travel.

Esquivel succumbed to her injuries at the scene of the crash.

The driver of the pickup truck, later identified as 39-year-old Cody Clark of Buna, was arrested on charges of intoxication manslaughter.

Motorists likely faced delays along TX-62 in the Buna area Tuesday night while emergency crews worked at the scene.

A full investigation is underway.
