Jose Benitez IDed as victim in Dallas hit-and-run on W Davis

DALLAS, TX – A 29-year-old man sustained fatal injuries Sunday when a vehicle struck him at a busy Dallas intersection, reports Fox 4 KDFW.

The accident occurred around 10:30 p.m. in the area of West Davis Street and North Bishop Avenue in the Bishop Arts District. This is west of I-35E and southeast of Kidd Springs Park.

Police say that Jose Benitez was crossing West Davis Street when a speeding SUV hit him. After crashing into a parked car, the driver of the SUV ran away.

Benitez succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Authorities located and arrested the driver of the SUV, who has since been identified as 29-year-old John Alvarez. Charges are pending.

A full investigation is underway.
