Pickup rear-ends car in SE Hidalgo Co., killing Colin Feltis
DONNA, TX – A two-vehicle collision along the freeway in southeast Hidalgo County proved fatal for a 16-year-old Donna boy on Tuesday, reports KRGV 5.
The incident occurred just after 5:30 p.m. on the westbound side of the East Expressway 83 near North Main Street in Donna. This is about 14 miles southeast of McAllen.
Police say that for unknown reasons, an westbound Chevrolet Silverado struck the rear of a Chevy Cruze. One of the occupants of the Cruze, identified as Colin Feltis, died after transport to an area hospital. Feltis was a student at the South Texas ISD Science Academy.
Two others from the sedan also required hospitalization for injuries of unknown severity.
It’s unclear if the driver of the pickup truck sustained injuries in the accident, and no charges have been filed so far.
Officials closed the westbound side of the expressway in the area of the collision while emergency teams aided the victims and worked to clear the scene.
A full investigation is underway.
