Jamar Champ, 1 other claimed in Katy Fwy head-on crash

HOUSTON, TX – A former football player for North Dakota State University died Tuesday in a multi-vehicle collision along the interstate in central Houston, reports KVRR.

The accident happened just after midnight on the eastbound side of the Katy Freeway approaching Washington Avenue. This is east of West Loop North Freeway and south of Broadstone Memorial Park.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a westbound BMW sedan entered the eastbound side of the freeway and crashed head-on into a Tesla Cybertruck. The impact of the first crash caused the Tesla to collide with an 18-wheeler.

The BMW caught fire, and the wrong-way driver succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the accident. His name has not yet been released to the public.

The driver of the Tesla died after transport to an area hospital. Authorities have since identified him as 66-year-old Jamar Champ.

The investigation is ongoing.
