Solo crash on US-277 near Eagle Pass claims Samantha Serna

MAVERICK CO., TX – A woman died, and two people were injured last Friday in a single-vehicle collision along the highway in west-central Maverick County.

According to KRGV 5, the accident happened around 3 p.m. on US-277 just east of Eagle Pass, which is near the Texas and Mexico border and around two hours northwest of Laredo.

Police say that a westbound 2005 Chevrolet Silverado carrying five people left the roadway and overturned into a ditch when one of the rear tires burst.

The impact of the crash ejected three unrestrained passengers. The driver, who has since been identified as 31-year-old Samantha Serna, became entrapped in the wreckage.

Medics extricated Serna and airlifted her to an area hospital, where she later died.

Two passengers from the Chevy were airlifted to a San Antonio hospital with injuries of unknown severity.

A full investigation is underway.
