Robert Ramos struck, killed on W Illinois in SW Midland

MIDLAND, TX – A drunk driver struck and fatally injured a pedestrian Monday along a major roadway in northwest Midland County, reports First Alert 7.

Shortly before 2 a.m., emergency crews responded to an auto-pedestrian accident on West Illinois Avenue near North Brentwood Drive in the Wilshire Park area of Midland.

Police say that 26-year-old Darren Olvera was intoxicated when his white 2024 Ram 1500 pickup hit a 64-year-old man that was walking on West Illinois. It’s unclear if the pedestrian was utilizing a designated crosswalk when the crash occurred.

The victim died after transport to an area hospital. Authorities identified him as Robert Castillo Ramos.

Olvera was arrested on a charge of intoxication manslaughter.

A full investigation is underway.
