COOKE CO., TX – An elderly man sustained fatal injuries Monday when a vehicle struck him along the highway in west-central Cooke County, reports KXII 12.
Sometime early in the morning, emergency crews responded to an auto-pedestrian accident on the eastbound side of US-82 just past FM 1198. This is just north of Myra and around 42 miles northwest of Denton.
Police say that 74-year-old Edward Leyva of Collinsville was crossing the highway on foot when a vehicle hit him. It’s unclear if the victim was using a designated crosswalk at the time of the collision.
Leyva died at the scene of the crash.
Medics transported the driver of the vehicle, who has since been identified as 53-year-old Steven Murphey, to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
