Emilio Martinez, 5, killed in Fort Worth TRE train crash

FORT WORTH, TX – A child sustained fatal injuries Wednesday in a collision involving a car and a train in northeast Fort Worth, reports Fox 4 KDFW.

The accident happened around 3 p.m. on the tracks just south of the intersection at Elliot Reeder Road and Colony Court. This is south of TX-121 and north of the West Trinity Fork River.

Police say that 24-year-old Fabian Riojas drove around the railroad gates at the crossing and entered the path of a TRE train. The train struck the vehicle, killing 5-year-old Emilio Jacobi Martinez at the scene.

Medics transported Riojas, who has since been identified as the child’s uncle, to an area hospital with unspecified injuries.

Authorities have charged Riojas with manslaughter.

A full investigation is underway.
