Jacob Rodriguez IDed as victim in McAllen drunk-driving crash

MCALLEN, TX – A 25-year-old man died, and at least five other people were hurt over the Thanksgiving weekend in a solo collision in McAllen.

According to Valley Central, emergency crews were called just after 2 a.m. Saturday to an injury near 1600 Bicentennial Boulevard, which is south of Municipal Park and just north of the intersection with Pecan Boulevard.

The initial investigation indicates that the 18-year-old driver of a Ford Bronco was likely intoxicated when she lost control of the vehicle, left Bicentennial Boulevard, and hit a stone fixture. The Bronco overturned, and all seven occupants were hospitalized.

One of the passengers, identified as Jacob Rodriguez, died not long after transport.

There’s no word yet regarding the condition of the other occupants.

Authorities arrested the driver, identified as Gabriela Nunez Garcia on a charge of intoxication manslaughter. Garcia will likely face other charges as well.

The investigation is ongoing.
