Lee Roy Rodriguez killed in wrong-way collision near Alice
JIM WELLS CO., TX – A McAllen man died, and one other man was hurt over the Thanksgiving weekend in a three-vehicle crash in central Jim Wells County.
According to Valley Central, the accident occurred shortly before 1 p.m. Saturday along US-281 near Alice, which is around 45 miles southwest of Corpus Christi.
Police say that a southbound Toyota Solara rear-ended and 18-wheeler before entering the northbound side of the highway and crashing head-on into a GMC Sierra.
The wrong-way driver, identified as 51-year-old Lee Roy Rodriguez, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Medics transported the driver of the Sierra, identified as Brian Cisneros, to an area hospital with unspecified injuries.
A full investigation is underway.
