Officer Austin Cooley killed in head-on crash near Greenville
HUNT CO., TX – A 26-year-old police officer sustained fatal injuries Monday in a wrong-way collision along the highway in south-central Hunt County, reports Fox 4 News.
The accident occurred in the morning on TX-34 near County Road 2185, which is just south of Greenville and about an hour northeast of Dallas.
The preliminary investigation indicates that Officer Austin Cooley’s northbound vehicle entered the southbound side of TX-34 and collided head-on with a southbound pickup truck. There’s no word yet about what might have caused Officer Cooley to travel onto the wrong side of the roadway.
Officer Cooley of the Kaufman Police Department succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the crash.
It’s not yet clear if the driver of the pickup truck sustained injuries in the accident.
A full investigation is underway.
