Timothy Knighton killed in head-on crash along CR 4002

NEWTON CO., TX – An elderly man sustained fatal injuries Sunday in a two-vehicle collision along a rural roadway in Newton County, reports KJAS.

Shortly after 7 a.m., emergency crews responded to a major accident along Woods Community Road, or County Road 4002, in the southern outskirts of Newton. This is about 70 miles northeast of Beaumont.

Police say that for unknown reasons, a northbound Dodge pickup truck entered the southbound side of County Road 4002 and collided head-on with a southbound Lexus SUV.

Authorities pronounced the driver of the SUV, identified as 77-year-old Timothy Knighton, deceased at the scene.

The driver of the pickup truck did not sustain injuries in the crash.

A full investigation is underway.
