Update: Tammy Asher IDed as victim in Toll 49 semi crash

TYLER, TX – Police have identified the 59-year-old woman who died Tuesday in a wrong-way collision involving two semis in Smith County, reports KLTV 7.

The accident happened in the morning on Toll 49 between FM 2493 and US-69 in southwest Tyler.

Police say that Tammy Lee Asher was driving a westbound 18-wheeler that entered the eastbound side of Toll 49 and collided head-on with an eastbound semi-truck.

The collision killed Asher at the scene.

The other driver sustained minor injuries; they did not required hospitalization.

It’s not yet clear what caused Asher to veer onto the wrong side of Toll 49.

Officials closed Toll 49 in the area of the crash while crews attended to the victims, gathered evidence, and worked to clear the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
