Scooter rider Tony Vasquez, 31, killed in hit-and-run crash in Irving
IRVING, TX – A 31-year-old man identified as Tony Vasquez was killed in a hit-and-run crash that happened in Irving on Friday, June 19.
NBCDFW said the collision happened at the intersection of Cantrell Street and Cibola Drive. Preliminary details show that the driver, identified as 36-year-old Noe Ibarra, confessed to police that he drank 4 to 6 cans of beer before driving his vehicle.
Ibarra ran over Vasquez, riding a scooter, twice before fleeing the scene of the crash.
EMS crews rushed Vasquez to a hospital for severe head/brain trauma injury, damaged organs, and several broken bones. He unfortunately died from his injuries.
Ibarra was found by police and confessed to hitting his car with something, but claimed he did not know he ran over Vasquez with his vehicle.
Ibarra was charged with intoxication manslaughter, collision involving death, and being in the country illegally. He is being held on a $350,000 bond and is on an immigration hold.
