Man indicted after Pilot Point crash that killed cyclists Andre Kocher & Scott Mages

PILOT POINT, TX – A 23-year-old man was indicted last Thursday, June 25, after a crash that killed two cyclists, identified as Andre Kocher and Scott Mages.

Pilot Police told WFAA that the Denton County grand jury indicted the 23-year-old man, identified as Eliseo Mauala, on two counts of collision involving death, both of which are second-degree felonies.

On Monday, June 29, police obtained two warrants for Mauala’s arrest and arrested him at his home before 11 a.m. and then booked him into the Denton County Jail.

The Back Story

The crash happened before 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, December 20, 2025. The driver, Mauala, was reportedly speeding and displayed distracted driving when he crashed his car into the cyclists, Kocher and Mages, who were on a bike ride with fellow Frisco Triathlon Club members.

EMS crews took one male cyclist to Medical City Plano and another to Methodist Celina Medical Center for treatment. There, they later died from their injuries.

On the crash day, Mauala had repeatedly driven without a driver’s license and refused to submit to alcohol and drug testing.
