Red light runner causes fatal crash in Fort Worth
FORT WORTH, TX – A red light runner was said to have caused a fatal crash that claimed one person’s life in Fort Worth on Monday.
Police told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that the collision took place before 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of Interstate 35 West service road toward East Felix Street. A driver traveling north on the service road may have been traveling at a high rate of speed when they ran a red light and collided with a second vehicle on East Felix that had a green light.
The impact of the crash caused the second vehicle to rear-end the first vehicle, and the first vehicle rear-ended a traffic signal pole at the intersection.
EMS crews took several people, including the passenger of the second vehicle, to a local hospital. There, the passenger, unfortunately, died from their injuries. The others survived and were treated for unspecified injuries.
First responders have not confirmed the number of people who were injured or specified the current physical conditions of the surviving occupants.
Officials have not released the victim’s name and are actively working to determine the events that led to the crash.
