Man charged after domestic disturbance-turned-crash that critically hurt 5-year-old boy
DALLAS, TX – A 54-year-old man faces several charges after a domestic disturbance-turned-crash that injured a 5-year-old boy.
This comes as an update in connection with our previous reporting. Fox4News said the 54-year-old man, Ronnie Alcaraz, is being charged with “evading causing serious bodily harm, aggravated assault — family violence, and interference with an emergency call.”
Alcaraz is being held at the Dallas County Jail and his bond has been set to $55,000. The arrest affidavit also reveals that he had outstanding warrants in Rains County for making a terroristic threat.
The Back Story
The incident unfolded around 4:45 a.m. on Tuesday, August 11 on the 10300 block of Elam Road at a home in Dallas’ Pleasant Grove neighborhood. The Dallas Police arrest affidavit reveals that Alcaraz, who was armed with knives, was threatening to kill his girlfriend, after she refused to go to a liquor store with him.
Alcaraz’s girlfriend called 911 and said he hit her on the side of the head, pulled her her, and verbally threatened to pin her with his vehicle. She said she believed Alcaraz was intoxicated, and he also threw away her phone as he called 911.
Alcaraz fled the scene in a vehicle the moment Dallas police pulled up to the home.
Police tried to pull over Alcaraz, who refused to cooperate and continued driving at a high rate of speed before crashing into three vehicles.
One of the drivers, identified as Markietta Bryant, said she was running errands when Alcaraz struck the side of her Chevrolet Equinox.
While Bryant was not seriously hurt, her 5-year-old son, Leo Bryant Steward, was ejected and was left in critical condition.
Leo continues to remain in the Intensive Care Unit, and was supposed to start kindergarten this week.
