Tanker truck crash on US-69 near South St in Lindale spills fuel, hurts 4

LINDALE, TX – Four people went to the hospital Thursday after a multi-vehicle crash involving a tanker truck along a highway in northwest Smith County.

According to KLTV 7, the incident occurred around 6 a.m. on US-69 between South Street and East Eagle Spirit Drive in the city of Lindale. This is about 90 miles southeast of Dallas.

Police say that a tanker truck carrying approximately 8,000 gallons of diesel collided with at least one other vehicle along the highway. The impact caused the truck to overturn and spill around 5,000 gallons of fuel onto the roadway. It’s not yet clear what caused the accident or how many people total were involved.

Two people became entrapped in the wreckage and required extrication from their vehicle(s). Medics transported four people total to the hospital with unspecified injuries. Officials say that all of the victims are expected to survive.

Police closed the highway in the area of the crash while emergency and hazmat teams worked to rescue the victims and clean up the fuel spill.

A full investigation is underway.
