Rollover crash involving cattle truck at I-30 and Baird Farm Rd kills 40-45 cows
ARLINGTON, TX – A major accident involving a cattle truck along the interstate in northeast Arlington killed 40 to 45 cows on Monday night, reports CBS News.
The incident occurred just after 9:30 p.m. on the bridge over I-30 at Baird Farm Road, which is just north of Richard Greene Linear Park and Choctaw Stadium.
Police say the cattle truck overturned when the driver attempted to turn left from the I-30 frontage road onto Baird Farm Road. The truck was carrying approximately 80 cows when the wreck happened, and around half of them died in the crash.
At least one other driver became involved in the crash after striking a cow in the roadway. It is unclear if that driver sustained injuries in the accident.
The truck driver was unhurt.
Officials closed the roadway in both directions overnight while crews utilized a forklift to clear dead cattle from the roadway and attended to the surviving animals. All lanes re-opened by around 9 a.m.
A full investigation is underway.
