Wrong-way crash on US-281 in Donna kills border patrol agent
DONNA, TX – A 21-year-old Border Patrol agent died earlier this month in a wrong-way crash along the highway in southeast Hidalgo County, reports myRGV.com.
The accident occurred shortly before 9 p.m. on Friday, November 1st, along US-281 just east of South FM 493 in the city of Donna. This is east of Runn Elementary School.
Police say that the 47-year-old driver of a Ford F-150 entered the wrong side of the highway and collided head-on with a Border Patrol processing van.
A passenger in the van, identified as Jose Martin Rodriguez-Lua, died at the scene of the accident.
The crash impact caused the Ford to overturn, at which point it caught fire. The driver of the Ford, identified as Cecilio Orozco III, also died at the scene of the accident.
There’s no word regarding additional injuries.
A full investigation is underway.
