Samantha Alwan, 29, killed in head-on crash along I-27 NB
LUBBOCK CO., TX – An off-duty Plainview firefighter died Sunday in a fiery wrong-way crash along the interstate in north-central Lubbock County, reports Lubbock Avalanche-Journal.
The accident happened shortly after 6 a.m. on I-27 near East County Road 5100. This is just south of Abernathy and around 18 miles north of Lubbock.
Police say that a southbound 2014 Ford Escape entered the northbound side of the interstate and collided head-on with a northbound 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The wrong-way vehicle ignited, and both drivers sustained fatal injuries.
Authorities identified the driver of the Jeep as 29-year-old Samantha Alwan. She worked in Plainview as a firefighter.
The other driver has not yet been identified.
A full investigation is underway.
