Officer Sam Lively claimed in Tyler crash on Troup Hwy

TYLER, TX – A two-vehicle collision claimed the life of an off-duty police officer in Tyler on Friday evening, reports CBS News 19.

The crash involved a motorcycle and a vehicle and occurred around 6 p.m. near the intersection of Troup Highway, or TX-110, and Loop 323. This is just north of Highland Village on the southeast side of town.

Police say that a southbound vehicle struck a southbound motorcycle while changing lanes along the highway.

The motorcyclist, identified as off-duty Tyler police officer Sam Lively, died after transport to an area hospital.

No other injuries have been referenced in connection to the wreck, and it’s unclear if the driver of the vehicle will face charges.

A full investigation is underway.
