Glenda Roth struck, fatally injured by fiber optic line
SAN ANTONIO, TX – A woman died Thursday from injuries sustained when she was struck earlier this month by a fiber optic line near her home, reports KCENTV 6.
The incident occurred the morning of Friday, May 2nd, on Oak Ledge Drive in the Forest Oak area of northeast San Antonio.
Police say that a dump truck hit an overhanging branch, causing it to fall and hit a fiber optic line. The line then struck and fatally injured Glenda Huff Roth in her front yard.
Medics transported Roth to an area hospital with serious brain injuries. Roth underwent several surgeries but ultimately succumbed to her injuries almost two weeks after the accident.
The driver of the dump truck suggests that the fiber optic line, belonging to AT&T, may have been hanging lower than dictated by the national safety code.
A full investigation is underway to determine liability in connection to the accident.
