Box truck and HCSO cruiser collide, killing Casandra Martinez
LINN, TX – A 25-year-old woman sustained fatal injuries Thursday in a two-vehicle crash involving a box truck and a Hidalgo County police cruiser, reports ValleyCentral.
The fatal accident occurred shortly before 4:30 p.m. at the intersection of US-281 and El Rucio Road in the city of Linn, which is about thirty minutes north of McAllen and two hours southwest of Corpus Christi .
The preliminary investigation indicates that a box truck sideswiped the driver’s side of a northbound cruiser carrying a Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office Deputy. The collision significantly damaged the cruiser and caused the box truck to overturn.
The driver of the box truck, identified as Casandra Nicole Chavez Martinez, died at the scene of the accident.
Medics transported the HCSO Deputy involved in the crash to an area hospital with non-critical injuries.
Officials closed the northbound side of US-281 for at least a few hours Thursday evening while emergency teams worked at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing.
