Larry Blacksmith IDed as officer killed in I-45 motorcycle crash

DICKINSON, TX – An off-duty police officer from the Lakeview Police Department died earlier this week in a two-vehicle collision in Galveston County.

According to Click 2 Houston, the accident occurred Tuesday on the feeder road for I-45, or Gulf Freeway, at FM 517 in southwest Dickinson. This is about 31 miles southeast of Houston.

The preliminary investigation indicates that Officer Larry Blacksmith was headed to work on his motorcycle when an unidentified passenger vehicle struck his bike. There’s no word at this time regarding the manner in which the two vehicles impacted.

Blacksmith sustained fatal injuries in the collision.

It’s unclear if the other driver or anyone else in the passenger vehicle sustained injuries.

No charges have been filed thus far, and the investigation is ongoing.
