Boat crash on Sabine River in Orange Co. claims David Besser

ORANGE CO., TX – The U.S. Coast Guard is investigating a fatal boat crash that happened last Tuesday on the Sabine River in southeastern Orange County, reports 12 News Now.

The two-boat collision occurred just after 6:30 p.m. between Cow Bayou and Adams Bayou, near the Texas and Louisiana state lines.

Officials say that for unknown reasons, a bay boat carrying only one person struck a commercial barge in the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway.

The operator of the bay boat, later identified as 37-year-old David Mitchell Besser, succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the crash.

It’s not yet clear if anyone on the commercial barge sustained injuries.
