Latuan Oscar Rive IDed as teen killed in Mission collision

MISSION, TX – A high school student died Saturday night in a two-vehicle collision along a busy roadway in southwest Hidalgo County, reports my RGV.

The accident occurred shortly before 10:30 p.m. at the intersection of La Homa Road and 66th Street on the northwest side of Mission, which is about eight miles northwest of McAllen.

Police say that a westbound 2020 Toyota Tacoma collided with a northbound 2006 GMC Envoy when the driver of the Tacoma failed to heed a stop sign at the intersection. The impact of the crash caused the GMC to overturn after hitting a fence.

Authorities declared the driver of the GMC deceased at the scene, identifying him as 17-year-old Latuan Oscar Rive.

Rive was a student at Palmview High School.

It’s unclear if the driver of the Tacoma sustained injuries or if they will face charges.

A full investigation is underway.
