Beaumont PD charges Lajanara Stevenson after fatal DUI crash
BEAUMONT, TX – One driver died, and a second driver faced charges Sunday after a two-vehicle collision along a major roadway in northeast Jefferson County.
According to 12 News Now, the accident occurred shortly after 1 a.m. on Washington Boulevard near the intersection with South 5th Street on the south side of Beaumont. This is about 85 miles northeast of Houston.
Police say that 47-year-old Lajanara Stevenson was drunk when his eastbound vehicle collided with a westbound car.
The driver of the westbound vehicle succumbed to their injuries at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the name of the deceased.
Stevenson was arrested on felony charges of intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle.
The collision likely caused delays along Washington Sunday while emergency crews gathered evidence and worked to clear the scene.
