Police name Jasmine Batiste as victim in Beaumont DUI crash
BEAUMONT, TX – Authorities have identified the woman killed in a wrong-way crash caused by a drunk driver in Beaumont on Sunday, reports 12 News Now.
Shortly after 1 a.m., 47-year-old Lajanara Lamont Stevenson’s vehicle veered into oncoming traffic near Washington Boulevard and South 5th Street and collided head on with another car.
The driver of the second vehicle, since identified as 19-year-old Jasmine Batiste, died at the scene.
Officials say that Batiste was the great-niece of Robin Mouton, who served as mayor to the city of Beaumont from 2021 to 2023.
While Batiste was driving to pick up her son when the crash occurred, there were no passengers in her vehicle at the time of the accident.
Police booked Stevenson into Jefferson County Correctional Facility on a felony charge of intoxication manslaughter.
The investigation is ongoing.
