Cheryl Baxley IDed as victim in Gaines Co. solo crash

GAINES CO., TX – An elderly woman sustained fatal injuries Sunday in a single-vehicle collision in west-central Gaines County, reports the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal.

The accident happened around 4 p.m. at the intersection of County Road 251 and County Road 210, just east of the Texas and New Mexico state lines.

Police say that 71-year-old Cheryl Ann Baxley of Hobbs was thrown from her 2012 Ford Fusion after running a stop sign at the intersection and crashing into an embankment. The Ford rolled and ignited upon impact.

Baxley was not wearing a seatbelt and succumbed to her injuries at the scene of the accident.

There were no passengers in the Ford at the time of the crash.

A full investigation is underway.
