Pedestrian crash on Cesar Chavez claims Joseph Katigbak

AUSTIN, TX – A vehicle fatally struck a 35-year-old man in downtown Austin the night of Christmas Eve, reports CBS Austin.

Just before 6 p.m., emergency crews responded to an auto-pedestrian accident at West Cesar Chavez Street and Walter Seaholm Drive. This is north of the river and east of North Lamar Boulevard.

It’s not yet clear if the victim was walking in a designated crosswalk when the crash occurred. Police say he died after transport to an area hospital.

Authorities identified the victim as Joseph Capulong Katigbak,

The driver involved in the crash stopped to render aid and to speak with police. They did not show signs of impairment.

A full investigation is underway.
