Fernando Ario, Jr. IDed as victim in El Paso Co. semi collision
EL PASO, TX – A vehicle collided with an 18-wheeler along the interstate in El Paso the morning of Martin Luther King Day, killing a 29-year-old driver.
According to KVIA 7, the accident occurred sometime after 2 a.m. on the eastbound side of I-10 near Nuevo Hueco Tanks Road. This is on the southeast side of the city, near the Amazon Fulfillment Center.
Police say the victim was likely speeding when his car rear-ended a semi-truck on the interstate.
The driver of the car, identified as Fernando Ario, Jr., died after transport to an area hospital.
It’s unclear if there were any passengers in the car at time of the accident.
Officials closed the eastbound side of I-10 while emergency crews worked at the scene,.
