James Shelnut IDed as victim in rear-end crash in NE Beaumont

BEAUMONT, TX – A Port Arthur man died Friday in a multi-vehicle collision along the interstate in Jefferson County, reports 12 News Now.

Shortly after 11:30 a.m., emergency teams were called to a fatal accident on the Purple Heart Memorial Bridge over the Neches River in northeast Beaumont.

Police say that an eastbound pickup truck crashed into the rear of a van, which then impacted with an 18-wheeler. The van and the semi were stopped after an earlier accident on the bridge.

Authorities declared the driver of the pickup deceased at the scene, identifying him as 43-year-old James Shelnut.

No other injuries have been referenced in connection to the crash.

A full investigation is underway.
