Jose Avila loses life in collision caused by alleged carjacker in Old East Dallas 

OLD EAST DALLAS, TX – A man, identified as Jose Avila, lost his life as a result of a collision caused by an alleged carjacker in the Old East Dallas neighborhood last Thursday, April 16. 

The incident unfolded before 5:30 p.m. on North Colett Avenue, NBCDFW reports. The suspected carjacker, identified as 25-year-old Tyrell Jones, was reportedly running through the street and fell onto the road. 

A female driver, operating a purple Kia Sorento, saw that Jones fell and slowed down and asked if he was OK. Jones jumped into her car and fell off. 

Jones then reportedly fought with the Kia driver, attempting to steal her car. According to eyewitnesses, the woman honked and screamed, and got out of her car — afraid for her life. 

Jones exited the woman’s vehicle and drove off. Jones went on the wrong side of the road and collided head-on with another vehicle, a Toyota, stopped at a stop sign. 

Both vehicles came onto the sidewalk and crashed into Avila, pinning him against a tree. 

EMS crews rushed Avila to a hospital, where he later died. 

Dallas Police arrested Jones and charged him with murder and robbery. By Friday, April 17, he remained in jail.
