1 life claimed, 4 hospitalized after two-pickup truck crash near Gunter
NEAR GUNTER, TX – One person’s life was claimed, and four others were sent to a hospital after a two-pickup truck crash on FM 121 near Calk Road.
The incident occurred around 8:45 a.m. on Wednesday near Calk Road, between Gunter and Tioga, KXII said. The Texas Department of Public Safety determined that a person operating a Dodge Ram pickup truck was driving east on the highway when they went into a westbound lane and crashed into a Ford F-350 pickup truck.
The impact of the collision led one passenger to succumb to their injuries.
Four others survived. EMS crews transported a second Ram passenger and the Ford driver by ground to a hospital, whilemedical helicopter personnel airlifted the Ram driver and another Ram passenger to a Dallas-area hospital.
DPS did not disclose the current physical conditions of the surviving occupants, only stating that the Ford driver, the sole occupant of their vehicle, was treated for serious injuries.
Authorities closed FM 121 for over three hours before reopening all lanes.
DPS is working to determine what caused the Ram driver to drift out of their lane.
