Boy, 12, hospitalized following hit-and-run crash in Garland
GARLAND, TX – A 12-year-old boy was sent to the hospital after a hit-and-run crash in Garland on Saturday, FOX4News said.
Preliminary details show that around 8:30 a.m., the 12-year-old boy, riding an electric scooter, had waited to cross the intersection of Apollo Road and North Garland. Once the pedestrian light turned green, he came onto the intersection and was then struck by a white utility-style work truck.
Police believe the driver of the truck stopped before turning onto southbound North Garland Avenue and inspected for oncoming traffic, but did not check for pedestrians. As a result, he crashed into the boy and briefly stopped before fleeing the scene.
Upon arrival, EMS crews rushed the 12-year-old boy to a hospital. He appears to be in stable condition, but is recovering from serious injuries.
Police believe the man is of larger build and has a buzz cut. Police are actively searching for the suspect and urge him to come forward, and also urge the public to share any dash camera footage that can aid with the investigation.
