Cpl. Kevin Buchanan ID’d as Roanoke officer injured in Hwy. 114 West pursuit-turned-crash, officials say 

ROANOKE, TX – The Roanoke Police Department has confirmed the identity of their officer who was injured in a pursuit-turned-crash on Highway 114 West. 

This comes as an update in connection with our previous reporting. The department told Fox4 News that it was Cpl. Kevin Buchanan who was injured, and identified the suspect as 26-year-old Deontae Keshawn Myers, from Lawton, Oklahoma.  

The incident happened after midnight on Sunday. Buchanan, who was on duty and operating a motorcycle, saw Myers operating a  2021 Yamaha motorcycle and reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed. 

Myers reportedly ran a red light on Interstate 35West. Buchanan tried to stop Myers, who was said to have fled the scene of another crash, but Myers did not stop, which prompted a pursuit. 

The chase ended when Myers crashed his motorcycle into a 2023 Ford Transit van. Buchanan tried to avoid a collision, but also crashed into the van. 

Myers and Buchanan were injured, while the van occupants were uninjured. 

EMS crews rushed Myers and Buchanan to a hospital. Buchanan remains in critical condition. 

Once Myers is released from the hospital, he will be taken to Dallas County Jail. The Northlake Police Department confirmed he is being charged with “evading arrest with a vehicle causing serious bodily injury, a third-degree felony, and reckless driving, a Class B misdemeanor.”
