Driver hospitalized following collision involving Mesquite fire truck engine
MESQUITE, TX – One driver was transported to a hospital after a collision involving a Mesquite Fire Department engine truck on Friday.
Mesquite Police told Fox4News that the incident happened around 3 a.m. on Interstate 30 West along Northwest Drive. There, a driver of a sports car crashed into a Mesquite Fire Department engine, which was there to block traffic as police and fire crews responded to the scene of a separate crash.
Officials described the fire engine truck as retired, saying it’s simply used as a means to block traffic for crashes and not used to respond to serious emergencies.
The impact left the driver of the sports car with non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities confirmed that no police officers or fire crews were injured.
Officials shut down the westbound lanes of Interstate 30, resulting in traffic delays that could be seen past the Broadway and Belt Line interchange, continuing to build toward the President George Bush Turnpike.
It’s not immediately clear what caused the sports car driver to crash into the fire truck engine, nor did police say whether they cited the motorist.
