Firetruck strikes, kills Abbott firefighter on I-35

ABBOTT, TX – An Abbott firefighter died Friday night after a firetruck accidentally struck him at the site of a prior crash, reports DFW Scanner.

The incident happened at 7:18 p.m. just south of Main Street Market, which is just southeast of FM 1304.

Police say the firefighter had stopped at the scene of an earlier collision to provide assistance when a firetruck accidentally struck him. Medics airlifted the victim to Hillcrest Hospital, where he died.

Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased. A full investigation is underway.
