Babysitter arrested when dogs attack, kill baby at Converse home
CONVERSE, TX – A one-year-old child died last week at his babysitter’s house in Converse when the three dogs that live in the home attacked him, reports News 4 SA.
The incident occurred on Monday at a home on Spruce Ridge Drive, which is just southeast of Woodcrest Park and about 17 miles northeast of San Antonio.
Police say that the baby’s babysitter, identified as 36-year-old Heather Rodriguez, left the baby in the home with her 13-year-old daughter. While Rodriguez was gone, the three pit bulls in the house attacked both the teenager and the baby.
The investigation indicates that the babysitter’s daughter tried to protect the baby by taking him to a bedroom with a closed door. The dogs broke through the door and fatally injured the baby, who died after transport to an area hospital.
Police arrested the babysitter, who now faces three felony charges.
The investigation is ongoing.
