Nancy Dowd, 56, struck, killed at Cockrell Hill and Division
DALLAS, TX – Earlier this month, a 56-year-old woman sustained fatal injuries when two vehicles struck her at an intersection on the west side of Dallas, reports Fox 4 News.
The incident occurred shortly before 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 2nd, at the intersection of South Cockrell Hill Road and Division Street. This is just south of Mount St. Michael Catholic School and northwest of Anson Jones Elementary School.
Police say the woman was crossing at the intersection when a black pickup truck hit her. While the driver of the pickup was stopped to render aid, another vehicle struck the victim and fled the scene. That vehicle has since been identified as a 2007-2010 black Lexus IS 250.
Authorities say the hit-and-run vehicle struck the victim’s head and drug her for body for an unidentified length of time.
The pedestrian, since identified as Nancy Dowd, died after transport to an area hospital.
Investigators identified both the vehicle and the hit-and-run driver after reviewing camera footage. They located and arrested Briseno Mendez on Saturday, January 11th. Mendez has been charged with a collision involving death.
The investigation is ongoing.
