Jessica Ludwig, Jaliyah Stevenson killed in fiery solo crash
HAMILTON CO., TX – Two women died, and a man sustained critical injuries Sunday in a solo crash caused by an alleged drunk driver near Hamilton, reports KWTX 10.
The accident happened shortly before 3:30 a.m. on US-281 and about an hour northwest of Waco.
Police say that the driver of a 2021 Mazda CX-5, later identified as 21-year-old Tavajenne Capers, was likely intoxicated when he lost control of the vehicle. The Mazda crashed into a tree alongside the highway, ejecting two female passengers. The car then ignited.
The two female passengers died at the scene. Authorities identified the 20-year-olds as Jessica Ludwig and Jaliyah Stevenson of Killeen.
Medics transported a male passenger to an area hospital with critical injuries.
Authorities arrested Capers on two counts of intoxication manslaughter.
The investigation is ongoing.
