Victor Zarate Avila, 24, killed in San Antonio hit-and-run
SAN ANTONIO, TX – A 24-year-old man died early Saturday in a two-vehicle crash caused by an alleged drunk driver on the west side of San Antonio, reports KSAT 12 News.
The accident happened shortly after 12:30 a.m. at West Travis Street and Northwest 24th Street, which is south of Navarro Park and east of Apache Creek Linear Creek.
Police say that the driver of a westbound Chevy Silverado failed to heed a stop sign at the intersection and collided with a southbound Nissan Sentra.
The impact of the collision threw a passenger from the Nissan, killing him at the scene. Authorities identified the victim as Zarate Avila.
Both the driver of the Chevy and the driver of the Nissan fled the scene on foot.
Police soon located the driver of the Chevy, whom they identified as 27-year-old Arthur Hugo Ruiz. Ruiz was arrested on a charge of intoxication manslaughter.
Authorities say the driver of the Nissan will also face charges when found.
A full investigation is underway.
