Joy Simmons, 29, killed in crash with Austin Fire vehicle

AUSTIN, TX – A 29-year-old woman sustained fatal injuries earlier this month in a two-vehicle collision involving an Austin Fire vehicle, reports Fox 7 Austin.

Just after 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 4, emergency crews responded to the intersection of the eastbound service road for TX-71 and Presidential Boulevard. This is at the north side of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.

Police say the victim and her friend were stopped in their vehicle at the intersection when an AFD fire engine struck them. The fire engine was en route to an incident when the crash occurred.

Medics transported both occupants of the passenger vehicle to an area hospital. The driver was released after treatment for unknown injuries.

The passenger in the vehicle, identified as Joy Simmons, died after transport.

Four firefighters sustained minor injuries in the wreck. It’s unclear if they required hospitalization.

The investigation is ongoing.
