Crystal Njepu, baby killed in single-vehicle crash in Channelview
CHANNELVIEW, TX – A solo crash that killed a woman and her infant in east-central Harris County last week may have been caused by a medical episode, reports Fox 26 Houston.
The incident occurred late Friday afternoon on Market Street near the San Jacinto River in Channelview, which is about 16 miles east of Houston.
Police say that Crystal Njepu lost control of her vehicle during a medical emergency, left the roadway, and drove into the river.
Rescue teams extricated the driver and an infant passenger, but they died at the scene of the wreck. Authorities identified the driver as 39-year-old Crystal Njepu.
Medics removed a five-year-old and a seven-year-old from the vehicle and transported them to an area hospital with undisclosed injuries. They are expected to survive the accident.
